Welcome to Køge Libraries

The library is open to everyone and most of our services are free of charge.

Most of our books are in Danish but we do offer a collection of fiction as well as non-fiction in foreign languages such as English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Arabic, Persian, Urdu, and Turkish.

If our holdings do not meet your demands, we'll gladly try to obtain materials from another library.

You may also search and request books etc. via Bibliotek.dk which is a national online catalogue with listings of all materials at all Danish libraries.

How do I become a member?

It’s easy and free of charge to join the library.  

If you would like to become a member of the library, all you need to do is visit one of the libraries in either Køge, Borup or Herfølge with valid personal identification (yellow Danish health insurance card or passport) and proof of your current mailing address.

We will issue you a library card which you can use straight away to borrow books, movies, music etc. 

Your library card comes with a pin code which you will need to access many of our services.

Library staff should be notified immediately if you change address, or if your card is lost or stolen.
 

How long can I keep library materials?

The regular loan period is 31 days for books and music. Other items such as DVDs and games have a 14 days loan period.

On our website you can sign in by entering your library card number and pin code to access your personal profile and renew your loans online 24 hours a day.

You can also use the app 'Biblioteket' to access your profile and keep track of your loans and reservations as well as renew borrowed materials.

Borrowed materials may be renewed up to 3 times on or before the due date unless they are on hold for another patron, they have been recalled, or your account has been suspended.

Please be aware that you are responsible for all materials checked out on your card and for all charges and fees made to your account.
 

How do I avoid bills?

Take good care of borrowed materials and return them on time.

Lost and/or damaged materials must be replaced according to rates set by the library - usually the replacement price of the material incl. supplement for preparation.

If borrowed materials have not been returned to the library once the loan period is exceeded by 30 days, they are assumed lost and a bill for replacement will be issued.

Please note that the replacement price for films/DVDs can be extremely high (DKK 1,000 or more) due to payment for the library's right to lend these materials.

You have the option to receive reminders for free by text message or email for items soon due to be returned. 

However, the non-receipt of library reminders does not relieve you from any replacement costs or fees that may be levied.

How do I pay?

Payment can be made via Køge Kommunes online payment site Mit Betalingsoverblik.

If you have questions regarding how to pay, you are welcome to contact the staff at the library in Køge, Borup or Herfølge.

If lost and replaced materials are returned in good condition within 60 days of the issuance of the compensation bill, the compensation amount can be refunded.

When the loan period has been exceeded by more than 90 days, the borrowed materials can no longer be returned.

The library assumes no responsibility if borrowed materials damage the borrower's playback or IT equipment.

Fees from before January 1st 2025

Here you can see the library's fees for overdue loans from before January 1st 2025. 

If you have fees for loans from before that date, they still apply and should be paid.
