Welcome to Køge Libraries

We offer you access to a large collection of items including books, audio books, CDs, DVDs, games, newspapers, magazines and databases.

The library is open to everyone and most of our services are free of charge.

Most of our books are in Danish but we do offer a collection of fiction as well as non-fiction in foreign languages such as English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Arabic, Persian, Urdu, and Turkish.

If our holdings do not meet your demands, we'll gladly try to obtain materials from another library.

You may also search and request books etc. via Bibliotek.dk which is a national online catalogue with listings of all materials at all Danish libraries.

If you would like to learn Danish or study another language, we recommend the library ressource Transparent Language Online.

If you need assistance of any kind, please do not hesitate to contact a member of staff.

How do I become a member?

It’s easy and free of charge to join the library.

If you would like to become a member of the library, all you need to do is visit one of the libraries in either Køge, Borup or Herfølge with valid personal identification (yellow Danish health insurance card or passport) and proof of your current mailing address.

We will issue you a library card which you can use straight away to borrow books, movies, music etc.

Your library card comes with a pin code which you will need to access many of our services.

How long can I keep library materials?

The regular loan period is 31 days for books and music. Other items such as DVDs and games have a 14 days loan period.

On our website you can sign in by entering your library card number and pin code to access your personal profile and renew your loans online 24 hours a day.

You can also use the app 'Biblioteket' to access your profile and keep track of your loans and reservations as well as renew borrowed materials.

Borrowed materials may be renewed up to 3 times on or before the due date unless they are on hold for another patron, they have been recalled, or your account has been suspended because of fines exceeding 200 dkr.

Please be aware that you are responsible for all materials checked out on your card and for all charges and fees made to your account.

How do I avoid fines?

A fee will be charged for materials returned past the due date.

You have the option to receive library notices for free by text message or email for items due in 2 days, and for requested items ready for pickup. The non-receipt of library notices does not relieve you from any fines or fees that may be levied.

Library staff should be notified immediately if you change address, or if your card is lost or stolen.

How expensive are the fines?

1-7 days: 20 dkr.

8-30 days: 80 dkr.

31 days: 200 dkr.

Children under the age of 14 pay half the rate.

Payment for overdue accounts can be made via Køge Kommunes online payment site Mit Betalingsoverblik.

If you have questions regarding how to pay, you are welcome to contact the staff at the library in Køge, Borup or Herfølge.

If materials are not returned once the maximum fee has been reached, a bill will be issued. Bills include overdue charges plus the cost for material replacement. If materials are returned then the replacement costs will be cancelled, leaving only overdue fines to be paid.
